Inshallah this will be an opportunity for us to learn from
the modest, charismatic, knowledgeable Shaykh Babikr; to remember
Allah as the beautiful voice of Hassen Rasool fills up the
marbled atrium of the new London Muslim Centre; and most importantly,
to contribute towards easing the suffering of our brothers,
sisters, mothers, daughters, fathers, and sons in Darfur.
The evening will include a fine three course meal, an auction
of Islamic artwork from all over the UK, and traditional qasaid
and nasheed, truly an event not to be missed, the first of
its kind in the LMC.
Ulfa Aid
“Whoever saves a life it is as though he has saved the
whole of humanity.” Al-Quran Surah 5 Verse 32
Ulfa Aid is a registered charity (No. 1102943) which has
virtually no overheads for this current appeal. Consisting
of a few determined and enthusiastic brothers in the UK, Sudan
and Kashmir, Ulfa Aid has been actively sowing the seeds for
a better future for orphans in Sudan. For this current appeal,
the focus has shifted to providing immediate relief for the
thousands of refugees dispersed from Darfur, through provision
of food parcels and clean drinking water. Alhamdulillah through
their hard work, they have made it even easier for us to help
those suffering, by performing all the hard work in the field
so we don’t have to – all they need is our serious
will to contribute towards their efforts financially.
Shaykh Babikr
To many of you the Shaykh needs no introduction; we love him
as a teacher, as a knower of the inward sciences, as a da’i
who has brought British people to Islam since the 1970s, as
the Imam of Yusuf Islam’s Islamia schools, and as a
man more concerned about the plight of others than himself.
He studied the Islamic sciences in Sudan under Shaykh Fatih
Qaribullah (rahimah-ullah) son of Sayiddi Shaykh Qaribullah
(rahimah-ullah) son of the Great Shaykh Ahmed at-Tayyib (rahimah-ullah).
The Shaykh has just returned from Sudan, and has been actively
planning and administrating the distribution of food and water
to refugees, as a trustee of Ulfa Aid.
Qari Hassen Rasool
Dubbed “The Nightingale of Tajweed”, in recent
months Br Hassen has been blessed to recite with Shaikh Abdur
Rahman Al-Sudais, Imam of the Haram in Makkah, and has never
been in higher demand. As Tim Winter (Shaykh Abdal Hakim Murad)
says: “Hassen can be likened to the men that light up
large fireworks, the men are not often noticed, but the explosions
move many.” Evoking an inexplicable nostalgic reminiscence
of the Quranic city, as Madinah was once known in the times
when the whole city would echo with the recitation of the
Quran, Hassen’s talent reminds us that the Quran, as
the Speech of Allah, is much more than the revered book on
our shelves.
Nasheed
This is a rare opportunity to listen to the more traditional
of ensembles in London, performing in public on this rare
occasion for the sake of Allah, their love of the Rasul s.a.w.,
and for the plight of our brothers and sisters in Darfur.
As the market and success of modern nasheed grows, on the
17th of September a unique ensemble of singers will provide
renditions in traditional style of such famed and loved Qasaid
as the “Burda” of Imam Busiri.
Auction
The Accenture Muslim Network has been lucky enough to collect
exquisite artwork from all over the United Kingdom over the
last month. Ranging from classical Kufic calligraphy, to intimately
etched glasswork, this is an opportunity to view first hand
the generosity and talent of the finest Muslim artists. Three
paintings done by Hassen Rasool will be included in this auction.
London Muslim Centre
Opened officially only in June this year, the new London Muslim
Centre is a venue befitting the enthusiasm of the UK’s
growing Muslim population. This is the first major event to
take place in the majestic halls of the new centre, which
itself is decorated with mosaics from Jordan, marble from
the Middle East, and the talent and labour of London’s
Muslims.
